I have the honour to as your urgent attention to the fol-

lowing matter. It is in the form of notes on evidence given.

Today a girl in the Chinese Asylum named Li Sze Mui com-

plained to me that Waramaster Cumming went into the female ward

last night and seized hold of her and pushed her into her room.

He then tried to put her on the bea and assault her. She does not

want to stay here ( Lunatic Asylum) any longer.

Wong Hing Chinese Warmaster states at 5. 50 p.m. last nigh

he went into the Chinese Asylum and found Cumming outside the

fengle ward door. When Wong Hing left the ward a few minutes bef

fore he locked the door leaving the key in the door. When he

came back from the European Asylum the key had disappeared and t

the door was open. He asked Cumming for the key. Cumming said:-

"I don't know where it is," but the girl saiu that Cumming had it

Cumming said the girl had attempted to hang herself. Wong Hing

could not find any string hanging to window or anywhere to show

that such was the case. Cumming appeared tipsy. Wong Hing sent

for the Amah at once. Wong Hing was not told anything by the

girl. Mr. Cumming left at 8.30 aho m. today, the 6th. anu salu

he was going to Aberdeen,

The Amah states at 6 o'clock she came down and found the

girl crying and shaking. She found no key in the door and asked

for it, the girl sale Cumming had it. Cuming put her in her

room, put his hand over her mouth and tried to assault her. He
